Welcome to Congregation Agudat Achim

Our bylaws, Board of Trustees and officers

From the President

Agudat Achim (literally "an assembly of brothers and sisters") is our family. We are a sacred community, a congregation by virtue of our commitment to follow God's will in making ourselves better people and the world a better place. We do that by welcoming old friends and new, by sharing our table and our family with them in times of simcha (joy) and in times of grief. We do it by teaching our children that when our friends are working, we ask "How can I help?" We do it through tzedakah....often translated "charity", but derived from the Hebrew word for "justice". And we do it by learning and praying together, which have helped bring this sacred community through 2000 years of wandering to be here for us today in Leominster. Won't you join us?

- Bob Sarafconn, President

Education

The Joseph C. Foster Religious School serves students from grades K-12. Instructors are dedicated to ensuring a knowledge of prayer, holidays, Hebrew, history, customs and life cycle, as well as proficiency in the Shabbat service. Through periodic preschool programs and Family Education events, we strive to enhance Jewish learning for the family as a whole, thus enriching Jewish life at home. The warm congenial environment, relaxed atmosphere, and extra-curricular activities make our Religious School a place where students can achieve a sense of Jewish identity and a balanced Jewish education.

Worship...

Rabbi Alan Alpert and the Worship Committee work to offer a variety of experiences and activities to meet the needs of our diverse community. Our Services are informal and participatory and families are always welcome. Young members particularly enjoy monthly Tot Shabbat and Friday Night Family services. Women are counted for minyan, called to the Torah, and lead services regularly. Throughout the year, special holiday programs and events are scheduled.

Adult Education

Continuing education is designed to meet the expressed needs of the community. Programs have included scholars-in-residence, small study groups, Hebrew classes, as well as individual tutoring. Preparation for adult Bnai Mitzvah and conversion are available upon request.

Membership

We welcome all applications for membership, regardless of financial status. Membership dues are self determined following fair share guidelines. New members are also expected to make a commitment to the building fund, which goes toward the maintenance and upkeep of the synagogue building and grounds. There is no religious school tuition nor is there a charge for High Holiday seating for member families
